Mas Generós, more than a house

We are located in a unique place, right at the exit of a small medieval village, Fonteta. We are close enough so we can feel the peace of the slow time marked by the church bells, but far enough so we can sense the freedom of the fields that lead into the green and wild forest of Les Gavarres, our protected natural park. This is an ideal place for a getaway, to disconnect from the city and enjoy nature, but also to connect with ancestral lifestyles, with a simpler routine and a sweet stillness that renews us. Welcome.

Mas Generós is more than a simple accommodation. Our music room, library and yoga room, as well as our pool purified with magnesium salt, our vegetable garden and fruit tree fields are all available to our guests so they can enjoy a healthy, sustainable and stimulating environment.

The presence of a house in this location is registered since the 1700s. Here, for centuries, artisans made ceramics following the artisan tradition from La Bisbal. In 2014, we decided to refurbish the old house respecting the original architecture to honor its history.

Stones, bricks and tiles were saved and carefully reincorporated to the house with the help of local artisans who, to this day, use the ancestral techniques of the region. We especially value the conservation of the vaults in our ground floor, originally built in 1698. We also took into account the wind and the sun: oriented to the south like the traditional ‘masies’ (country houses), our house optimizes the heat from the sun and is protected from the cold wind of the north, the ‘Tramuntana’.

Let’s look, for a moment, at the peasants’ houses […] their facades always face the south with the eaves under the polar star so that the sun hits them all day and, as a consequence, they are turned away from the Tramuntana.

Our Identity

We profoundly identify with the idea of fertility that is implied in our name’s etymology. “Generós” etymologically comes from the Latin word ‘generare’ , that is, to generate, to produce, to promote. That’s why we offer not only accommodation, local cuisine and physical wellbeing, but also experiences: we try to generate ideas and promote fruitful meetings and dialogues. Taking our name one step further, we aim to become a place where you can regenerate yourself, learn and develop. We want our guests to rest and enjoy the calm of our house, but we also want them to find and share the best in themselves and, above all, to be transformed by the experience.

Like our name suggests, we are much more than an accommodation. We offer concerts, lectures, workshops and yoga classes and we also open our doors to private events so that our guests remember their stay with us as a transforming experience.

Mas Generós' Evenings

As part of our aspiration to generate dialogue and create transformations, we have created the “Mas Generós evenings” series. Its goal is to share culture understood in its broadest definition, that is, from music, art and literature, through local history and all the way to science and health. Mas Generós evenings aim at creating a free atmosphere in which everyone can share ideas and transform each other.

From local cuisine sessions through painting, drawing or sewing workshops and all the way to yoga classes, at Mas Generós we are always ready to help our guests learn something new, share the knowledge they bring with them and be transformed by the experience.

Sustainability

Mas Generós is a sustainable accommodation. We are committed to honour not only our house’s history but also its surroundings.

Not only have we reused the maximum of materials and followed ancestral techniques to make the most of the wind, the rain and the hours of sun, but we have also resorted to the most advanced technology to leave the cleanest footprint possible behind us. The garden and the swimming pool are exclusively maintained with the water from our wells and our rainwater storage tanks. Our drinking water comes from the general network, but it is filtrated and reused for greywater uses. In this way, we manage to consume a minimum amount of water and achieve to make the most of our resources. To regulate the temperature of the house, we also use a geothermal system, a network of water pipes that goes 100 meters deep under our house and brings the heat of the earth all the way up, redistributing it through a radiant floor. It is the most ecologically efficient air conditioning system, and it also brings a cozy natural comfort sensation to the house.
